Welcome to English 12. English 12 is a two-term course that teaches students to analyze literature in a number of ways. We will look at literature from a variety of lenses. We will be reading novels, plays, poems, and many short stories this semester. Writing work will be both informal (journals, response papers) and formal (critical analysis essays).

We are currently studying various elements of bias, propoganda, and persuasion. Our examination will cover textual and visual modes of media.

Propaganda is a particular message aimed at the masses to influence their opinions and ideologies. It uses truths, but primarily exhibits them selectively.

Each week I will provide a recent news article for our class. Your job is to read through it closely and be prepared for our Friday discussion. Occasionally I will ask you to respond to specific questions about the article ahead of time while other weeks I may simply ask you to write a journal response or critique it for bias.
